About me

Hello, I’m Max

My work connects the parts of a product: the interface people use, the services behind it, the data it depends on, and the systems it integrates with. Across BambooHR, Limble, and DentalQore, I’ve worked on tax compliance, billing, authentication, and business workflows.

I define service boundaries, API contracts, and database changes early, then carry the work through implementation, automated testing, code review, and rollout. That experience includes migrating authentication across 300+ API endpoints, supporting a customer with 600+ workers, and building automation that resolved more than 50% of flagged tax discrepancies.

FrontendAngular and React interfaces built with JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, connected to backend workflows through REST APIs. My work includes user management, scheduling, and application dashboards.

BackendPHP, Node.js, Go, and Laravel services spanning billing, authentication, third-party integrations, and asynchronous background processing.

DatabasesSchema design and migrations with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server, plus Redis-backed queues and tenant data boundaries in SaaS applications.

I’ve implemented Auth0, OAuth2, SSO, and token-based authentication, with role checks that connect user management, permissions, and billing.

At Limble, I helped customers schedule and assign users without application login accounts, including support for 600+ workers at one customer. At BambooHR, I migrated authentication across 300+ API endpoints with zero migration-related incidents or client-facing regressions.

At BambooHR, I built a tax-discrepancy workflow that automatically resolved more than 50% of flagged cases previously investigated manually. Temporal coordinated the workflow, while deterministic API actions, validation, and human review handled execution and exceptions.

I design coordinated changes across frontend applications, backend services, databases, and external integrations. I define service boundaries and API contracts, weigh technical choices against team skills and maintenance needs, and plan backward-compatible changes, feature flags, staged releases, and rollback.

At Limble, I secured architect agreement on TypeScript for a new service based on team proficiency, existing CI/CD, and lower operational overhead.

Automated testing, peer review, and Datadog logs and traces help me validate changes and diagnose production issues. At Limble, I introduced 30+ Playwright end-to-end tests to expand regression coverage across the team’s domain.

At BambooHR, I regularly fixed bugs across priority and complexity levels, including unblocking a client in approximately 3 hours when a workflow failure threatened a payroll deadline only hours away.

Career

Where I've Worked

6 years of B2B SaaS experience across full-stack development, tax compliance, billing, and authentication, with ownership from technical design through production release.

    • Owned PHP tax-compliance projects from service and API design through database changes, automated testing, code review, QA, and production release.
    • Migrated authentication across 300+ API endpoints using incremental deployments, automated validation, and rollback planning, with zero migration-related incidents or client-facing regressions.
    • Built an AI-assisted tax workflow that automatically resolved more than 50% of flagged discrepancies, using Temporal, deterministic API actions, validation, and human review.
    • Modernized legacy Visual Basic W-2 generation for thousands of employees, consolidating business logic behind an Auth0-protected API and verifying output parity before staged release.
    • Regularly fixed bugs across priority and complexity levels. Unblocked a client in approximately 3 hours ahead of an imminent payroll deadline through a corrective data migration and coordinated root-cause follow-up.
    • Owned a full-stack worker-role launch across Angular interfaces, backend services, databases, permissions, and billing, enabling scheduling and assignments without login accounts for 600+ workers at one customer.
    • Refactored role checks across user management, authentication, and billing while maintaining compatibility for thousands of customer accounts through backward-compatible changes, feature flags, and staged rollout.
    • Designed coordinated changes across multiple microservices. Secured architect agreement on TypeScript for a new service based on team proficiency, existing CI/CD, and lower operational overhead.
    • Built PHP, Node.js, and Go services, including a Go billing microservice supporting thousands of customers; integrated Chargify, Auth0, OAuth2, SSO, and token-based authentication.
    • Introduced 30+ Playwright end-to-end tests to expand regression coverage, reviewed and approved peer code, and diagnosed production issues with Datadog.
    • Built full-stack SaaS applications with PHP, JavaScript, HTML5/CSS3, and MySQL, connecting frontend workflows to backend logic and third-party REST APIs.
    • Refactored a leadership and sales dashboard spanning 10+ interdependent metrics, improving page load speed by at least 30% in most cases while preserving reporting accuracy.
    • Automated lead creation, data synchronization, and status updates through a Pipedrive REST API integration spanning the entire sales pipeline, reducing manual work between platforms.
    • Migrated ERP user-uploaded files and images to AWS S3 and CloudFront, offloading storage and delivery from application servers.
    • Integrated multiple third-party APIs, including Google and GoTo, and maintained PHPUnit automated tests to validate application changes and refactoring.

What I Build Outside Work

Independent projects where I design the architecture, build the application, and work through deployment and maintenance.

MatTracker

MatTracker

Independent SaaS · Production

I built and operate a multi-tenant SaaS application for martial arts gyms, covering member management, attendance, scheduling, and rank progression.

  • Built with Laravel, MySQL, and server-side rendering.
  • Enforced tenant data boundaries with Laravel Eloquent global scopes.
  • Added audit history to record who changed important data and support troubleshooting.
  • Deploy and operate the application on DigitalOcean with GitHub Actions CI.

Budgeting App

Independent project

A React and Laravel budgeting application with a supporting microservice that processes banking transactions asynchronously.

  • Implemented Redis-backed queues for background transaction processing.
  • Used Laravel Horizon for queue monitoring.
  • Decoupled background processing from the user interface.
